Brian Davis @ Tribesound on SoundBetter

Hi! I have been recording artists for about 15 years. I am extremely proficient at mixing, tracking and editing. I also have some mastering chops and great gear to do so. Some styles I worked with have ranged from jazz, heavy metal, rock, hip hop, and documentary's. I currently work at a pro studio in West Chester PA.

I offer professional/high quality mixing at a very affordable price. I will also precisely edit your material, add drum samples, tune vocals, etc. I use some of the industry's top plugins and great preamps. I also will reamp any guitars through a wide selection of great amps and mics.

I also have 17 years of guitar and bass playing in a very wide variety of styles and genres for your songs needs. I own over 30 guitars and possess a huge range of effects to achieve any sound you desire.

Would love to hear from you. Click the contact button above to get in touch.

I'm a longtime fan of Brian's, having followed his online releases for well over a decade. His top tier skill in both performance and production is multiplied by his versatility in both. Whatever it is you want, Brian can make it sound great.

Interview with Brian Davis @ Tribesound

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: Recording music and sound design for a documentary about refugees in Eritrea. Also recording a full length for a great indie rock group.

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: I'm not sure yet! There is a load of talent here and I have not had the pleasure in meeting anyone personally yet.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Both. They have their share of pros and cons. At the end of the day your average Joe cannot tell the difference. All that matters is that the song is great, the performance is great, and the production is great.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: They will be very happy with the result.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: Making great music with awesome people.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: "How long did it take you to learn all of this?" I say "Quiet a while but it never felt like work and you never stop learning."

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: I can only fix your poor performance to a point. We are not miracle workers.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: I often ask about the subject of the songs. I want to emotionally understand where they're minds are so that I may put myself in their shoes. I also ask who their influences are so that I may reference mixes of other tunes as well.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Don't be afraid to ask for what you want.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: My guitar, a cable,a tape machine, headphones, and any mic. (Simple limits can make you very creative.)

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: Music has always been my career choice one way or another. To me I've been doing this ever since I played my first notes.

  23. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  24. A: An EDM album I worked on for about 2 years off and on. We spent a lot of time crafting something great together and it turned out wonderful.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Well balanced.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Any artist who is willing to try crazy things that totally go against the grain. One of the best parts about working in this industry is the thrill of the risks.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: It's ok to feel like you are going to fuck something up. It you feel invincible and cocky, then something will get fucked up.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Rock, Indie, Metal, Singer-Songwriter, EDM.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: I would have to say my production chops, as well as my mixing skills.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I want it to be instantly good the moment someone hears it. I want it to be memorable, stimulating, and pure. I will work hard to bring out the best in the clients.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: It depends on the project really.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: Pro Tools HD, plenty of pres and mics, huge selection of guitars, amps, effects.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I enjoy working with the ego-less individuals the most. People that never stop learning and do what they do because they have a deep love for making good art.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Generally I am involved in the entire package: Tracking, mixing, producing, and often times performing on records as well. I will also receive the occasional mastering job as well.
