Interview with Jon Rosenthal Music

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: I promise to deliver what I promise on time and at a level of quality higher than you would expect.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: Everything!

  5. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  6. A: The main thing I ask is what is/are your goal(s)? What's your vision for what you want out of this project? What do you want to accomplish long-term?

  7. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  8. A: Put me in, coach! Let me show you what I can do :).

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Sure! In every artistic endeavor, I find many times that there's always something that can be tweaked or improved about a particular piece. However, there comes a point where the piece (in this case, a song) makes the emotional connection it's supposed to make. At that point, it's done. My point here is that the song doesn't have to be absolutely perfect to be considered a finished product.

  11. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  12. A: Writing memorable melodies is most definitely my strongest skill, along with harmonizing them in a way that's unique but still accessible to the everyday listener.

  13. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  14. A: I have a small bedroom studio in my home in Antioch, Tennessee that sounds surprisingly good! I use a Mac with Logic Pro software, some third-party plugins, a Sterling vocal mic, and JBL studio monitors.

  15. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  16. A: Everyone I work with inspires me. Every person I'm fortunate to spend time with has something unique to bring to the table, and I always find at least one nugget of inspiration in what I learn about the people I work with.

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: The most common type of work I do is I get a set of lyrics and I compose the music, orchestrate/arrange it and record, mix and master the tracks.
