Q: How would you describe your style?
A: A little bit singer/songwriter with an Americana & Roots element
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: This past year I got to edit an album teaser video together for Thomas Rhett. I took a dubstep inspired song and mixed in footage the production company I work for shot, and I sort of made a teaser for the album that was uber cinematic, hype-inducing, and energetic. I got to really shake up and remix the music to go along with it. It was really exciting to do. It also made his Instagram!!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: currently working on my own songwriting, demo-ing those songs, as well as a hype intro video for a touring artist!
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes! Frank Maroney + Michael McQuaid
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both! I love a chance to record analog, there's obviously an essence it has that digital doesn't, and vice versa.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to collaborate to work towards the best product that can be created. None of this is monotone work to me, I take everything seriously, make it fun, and deliver on time.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I like that there's a lot of free reign control over what gets created, but at the same time there can be a lot of cooks in the kitchen.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Customers usually ask with verbage that is not industry lingo, so interperetting that is always fun, but I usually can translate their intentions.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That it doesn't pay.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: How quickly does this need to be done? What are your goals for the finished product? Where is this going to be placed/used for? Do you have any examples or references for what you would like the end product to be like?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Know what you want the end product to be!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: guitar, grand piano, unlimited data and battery recording device (or solar powered) that could communicate with the world, loop machine, reverb fx pedal
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My career path has been a winding twisting one that has always been centered around the creation of musically inclined content. I started off playing piano, guitar, and violin throughout my childhood, and picked up singing once I got to high school. I sort of made music my second gig for awhile while I went to get a degree from a Fine Arts college for Film Production. I graduated with a film degree and have been shooting and editing video content since then, while slowly building my song catalog as a writer.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Ryan Tedder, he is a force that has inspired my songwriting in many ways, as well is a successful entity that I aspire to be like one day.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: be able to take a step back with your ears and listen to what you're working on as a whole. Don't get too caught up in the minute amount of compression you're putting on the bass drum right before the chorus kicks in.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: singer/songwriter, pop, & country
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is attention to detail/finessing a final product
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I can always bring a fresh idea to a song, but I am really great at building on and enhancing an idea that's already there.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Sara Bareilles, Patty Griffin, Lori McKenna, The Lumineers, Ryan Tedder, Ross Golan, Charlie Puth, Julia Michaels
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Post Production Video & Sound Editing, Music Mixing & Editing, Vocal Comping, Creating soundscapes, vocals on demos
