Marcus Abramzik on SoundBetter

I am a session bass player who does studio work as well as live performance. Crafting lines that compliment a song and gives the track life is my goal, and I strive to make your song the best that it can be. Whether it's top 40, Country, Indie, Funk, R&B, EDM, Metal or Jazz, I can give your song the strong foundation you are looking for!

I have performed around the world and spent countless hours in the studio with artists performing music of many different styles. Through my years of performing and my education in jazz, I have built up a reputation as a player who always puts the song first, and as a musician who is easy and fun to work with. My skill, reputation, and hard work have given me the opportunity to play and record music with such fantastic artists as JoJo Mason (604/Sony), Madeline Merlo, The Belle Game (Arts and Crafts), The Matinee (Light Organ/Sony), Wake Owl, Hilary Grist, Jasper Sloan Yip, Donny McCaslin, J.P. Maurice, and many others.

My tracks needed a solid baseline and Marcus delivered right on cue with some subtle variations to give it a spontaneous feel that really help drive the tracks along. A great outcome! Look forward to working with him again.

Interview with Marcus Abramzik

  1. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  2. A: Bernard Purdie. Listening to his drumming, you can just hear how much fun he is having and how deeply he enjoys playing music. Nobody grooves like him!

  3. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  4. A: I've always been really impacted by Carol Kaye and James Jamerson because of the way that they can play with such groove and joy, and never get in the way of the song.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Paul Kinman and Lonny Eagleton are both fantastic guitarists that I hold in extremely high regard.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: I love getting the chance to interact and play with people daily. I also very much enjoy that every day is different from the previous one, and that I get to fill my hours with something that is so rewarding and enriching.

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: What kind of mood/vibe do you want to set? Do you have a specific type of tone you want from the bass? Do you have a certain style, song, or artist that inspired you or your track?

  11. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  12. A: What I love so much about playing the bass is the way that the instrument finds it's space in-between the other parts. Fitting into the pocket between the drums, harmonic instruments and the melody is a skill that I feel I excel at and that I enjoy immensely.
