Interview with Eric Lee

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: so many to pick just one but one of my early assisting jobs at Cosmos was "Carlos Rivera - Recuerdame" from the Disney's Coco movie soundtrack.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: A rock band from Argentina.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Both, why settle on just one?

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: Fast and reliable pro-quality mixes, every time...

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: A new song everyday, a great performance for my own.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: Can I get multiple mixes (instrumentals, Acapella, etc) and the PT Session? Of course... it's yours.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: making a bad song a good song... I can make a bad song to sound great, and a great song make it epic.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: Is the song finished? What you're looking in a mixer?

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Try different mixers, producers or musicians if budget allows it and let everyone bring out the best for your music, collaboration it's a good thing.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: Laptop, UA Apollo, ATC SCM45, Neumann u47 and the trusty 1176

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: After graduating in 2011 (Bachelor degree of audio engineering and music production) I landed a job as assistant at a local studio, after 1 year I decided to built my own studio which worked mostly on Indie projects, after a few years and attending a MWTM seminar I made an internship at Cosmos Producciones with Multi-platinum and Grammy Award Producer Armando Avila in 2017, learning from Armando has been awesome and now I do Recording and Mixing for him and other artists.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: Devil is in the details.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: Luke Combs, lyrics so good... and the vibe it's killer

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: Magic is on the midrange, if you don't have a special monitor (cubes, ns-10) stick a Fabfilter proQ on your master and cut the lows @200Hz 12dB/octave and the highs@4000Hz 12dB/octave and adjust most of your eq in that range. (don't forget to bypass from time to time as switching monitors)

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: Pop, Pop-rock, Country

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: I always deliver on time and I'm reliable, weather editing, recording or mixing I'm your guy.

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: The emotional impact of the performance and arrange using my own taste accordingly

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: I listen to the rough mix or demo, and after chatting with the artist/producer I work my magic.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: I'll mix using a hybrid setup.

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: CLA, Mutt Lange, Serban Ghenea, Andrew Scheps, Armando Avila

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
