Matthew is a multimedia composer, creating experimental soundtracks with synths and electronics.

Matthew Tomkinson ("Mathoms") is a composer and sound designer for theatre, film, and contemporary dance. His practice centres around constraint-based composition, creative misuse, and textural exploration.

Career highlights include scoring a five-part sci-fi series for CBC called FUTURE FUTURES (2022); producing an audiovisual album called THE WOE TRUMPETS (2020), with an accompanying film that premiered at the CULTPLEX cinema in Manchester; and holding a two-week residency at Lobe Spatial Sound Studio, composing an immersive soundscape for a 35-speaker array.

Matthew's scores have been presented widely throughout Canada, Germany, Spain, the US, and UK — including platforms such as CBC, Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF), PuSh International Performing Arts Festival, Vancouver International Dance Festival, Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, and more.

Recent collaborators and commissions include Ballet BC, Company 605, Ace Co Pro, Kinesis Somatheatro, Eric Cheung, and the All Bodies Dance Project.
