Interview with Gabriel DeBenedict

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Project Lullaby by Team Lullaby, I was the composer on this game, and I was proud cause I was able to show off my orchestration skills, and glad they weren't going to waste.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: A mobile game and multiple Instagram shorts.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Not yet.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital so I don't have wires flying.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I will deliver the music that fits your project perfectly.

  12. A: Connecting with new people and seeing smiles on their faces when they hear my music.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Why do I charge what I do? Cause its a lot of work, that's why you're hiring me.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That even though I use my computer, an orchestral production in fact takes awhile, and is a lot of work, so yes, it does cost a lot.

  18. A: Scope, Deadline, Budget, Desired Style, Favorite Food

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Well since there is no electricity, I guess a knife so I can make paper, a mortar and pestle so I can make ink, tuning fork set cause I cant bring a piano and I cant really play a guitar (plus it will eventually wear out and break), an axe for the trees, and I guess an ocarina for some variation.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I grew up around music, started the piano at age 13, joined chorus my sophomore year in high school, then went to Berklee for 4 years studying Film and Video Game Scoring, graduated Magna Cum Laude, and have been freelance composing during and since.
