Elias David Rooney on SoundBetter

I am a professional cellist living in Scotland and working throughout Europe.

I am originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland but trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and have made Scotland my home for the past ten years.

I've enjoyed a really varied career so far. I've worked regularly with the orchestras of English National Opera, Scottish Ballet, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Ulster Orchestra and RTÉ Concert Orchestra. More recently I have been sourcing in-scene musicians for Outlander on Starz TV. As well as playing myself, I have produced recordings made for Season 6 of Outlander on behalf of Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Outside of orchestral playing I have enjoyed my own solo concerts as well as performing and recording with artists/ bands like Evanescence (Synthesis world tour), Ronan Keating, Katherine Jenkins, Alfie Boe, Foy Vance and Belle and Sebastian. All these different styles of music have their own unique sound and I love playing my part in bringing that gorgeous string sound into the mix. I've done a lot of live radio broadcasts on BBC Radio 3 and Radio Ulster and am used to learning music quickly for performance and recording under pressure.

I approached Elias needing some cello parts recorded for an alt-pop song from a pre-written score. He recorded the parts within a day and also suggested some tweaks to the score (that were very welcome). Overall, super easy and professional communication and high-quality service. Would definitely like to work together again :)

I had the pleasure of working with Elias on my album "Now The Lights Have Changed - Little Hours". He is an incredible player and professional. His playing immediately brought the tracks to life, "Walk On By" in particular. Also, his ability to adapt to last minute changes and ideas comes so naturally to him which makes him incredibly reliable to have in studio. I couldn't have been happier with his parts and couldn't recommend him enough.

Elias is a fantastic cellist. He brings so much to the session or rehearsal. His immediate grasp of style is phenomenal. As well as being diligent, technically proficient, superb sight-reader and accurate player, he's able to elevate an orchestration giving it depth and class. I've used Elias for a diverse range musical theatre gigs and also theatre and pop recording sessions. He is my go to.

I have worked with Elias on live performances and in the recording studio, both were good experiences: he is committed, flexible and fun.
