Interview with lattieboy

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Just all my projects i'm proud of cause I do just about all the work myself from start to end for the client. Couple project I did for a friend where he program all the tracks for the album into a keyboard sequencer. I extracted all the tracks one at time send them over to my daw and mix and master the project. He was blown away after hearing the finish product being produce to commercial quality.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Currently working on couple calypso projects for release in a months time and also doing an online mixing course out of the UK.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I'm new here, but I hope to email people here to make friends and working partnerships that can benefit all of us.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital, digital is more costly effective, It sound great if you know how to use the various plugins to emulate analog gear.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: If you are not 100% satisfied with your project and we have exhausted all our resources you don't pay.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: The ability of satisfaction of going back to the demos and comparing to the finish product and feeling the sense of accomplishing a task that the client is happy with is my best joy.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Most question im ask is that you make it look so easy, I can purchase the software and do it myself. My answer: Sure you can purchase the software and do it yourself, but its not the software that creates the results, it's the knowledge and understanding of what you are doing that counts.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Most people think that if you use a particular software that your product has to be good. And that anyone can mix or master a song because there are presets to do the work for you.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: !. What is the goal? 2. What time frame are you looking reaching that goal? 3. What would you like for me to do precisely. 4. Are you satisfied with the results of my service.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: If you can point me in the direction that you will like your project to go, I can add my flavors to your ideas and make your product better/

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Macbook Pro, Propellerhead reason software, Shure sm57 mic and an acoustic guitar.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I have been an active musician from a very long time. I had a passion for mixing so I built my home studio and started working with local bands and artist. Over the years I need to immersed myself more in mixing so I started taking classes online, then went on to taking a master certificate course in Pro Tools with Berklee college online.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style is if a client is excited about their project being really good, then my interest is lets make a great record. If the client wants something good but doesnt have any input on how to get there then my interest is hampered by their lack of effort to know what they want.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Would like to work with any artist who want to bring my expertise of what I have learned from experience and from studying mixing and mastering to help better their projects.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: The EQ is your best piece of gear whether it;s live sound or in the studio. 99% of the time you can get the sound you are looking for simply by cutting rather than boosting frequencies. And also not all instruments need to be EQ to sound great. If nothing is wrong with it don't EQ at all.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I have work on Calypso, soca, (world), reggae, gospel, Hip Hop.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: First of all I'm a musician, been playing for more than twenty-five years, own my own band. I have work on both side from a musician to production. My strongest skill set is to listen from musician's point of view and from a production point of view whether im playing an instrument or mixing or mastering.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I can work from a vocal demo to a finish product whether it's all software instruments or add guitar parts or bass parts. I also create beats, and can finger drum parts to make it sound more like it was played by a live drummer.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: If I'm producing I like to have the client come in and do a demo of the song where I'll work out the chords. Get the idea of what they are looking for then, I'll start creating a fdmo production around the demo vocal for listening purposes. I most mix and master what I produce.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: My studio set up is mainly, Protool, Studio One, Reason DAWs, microphones, Hard disk recorders, Mac pro, various synths, drum machines etc.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Bob Marley, Morgan Heritage, Dave Pensado, Berklee music schools professors I've learned from.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I sequence, Mix and Master songs. Can also add live guitar and bass parts to songs.
