Caio Duarte - BroadBand Studio on SoundBetter

Hi! I'm a music producer, audio engineer and multi-instrumentalist based in London (UK) and Brasília (BR) with extensive work in rock, metal, film soundtracks, and world music.

I've been active as a music producer since 2004, and since then I've been very lucky to work in over 100 albums with artists from four different continents, plus writing a number of successful film soundtracks.

Asides from producing, arranging, mixing and mastering, I am a multi-instrumentalist and frequently perform drums, guitars, bass, vocals, keys, saxophone, violin and other instruments in my productions or session jobs.

Email me through the 'Contact' button above and let's get to work.

Interview with Caio Duarte - BroadBand Studio

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Digital, simply because it's simpler and way more affordable - and I strongly believe that poor artists should have the right to afford professional results in the same league as artists with big budgets.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: Being able to work with wonderful artists, becoming friends with talented people from all over the world while making great music.

  5. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  6. A: Thinking that quality work is a result of using expensive equipment. It absolutely isn't.

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: I like to ask questions regarding the size of the project, their artistic goals and, depending on their inclinations, ask for references.

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: Trust your instincts, ignore the critics, and don't stress over the process. Art is meant to be fun, and it shows in the final result.

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: I ended up doing this by accident: At first I used to record music just for fun, but as my skills developed more and more people starting to ask me to produce their own, and little by little it grown to a point where I was making a living out of it. I have been working professionally as a music producer for almost 15 years.

  13. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  14. A: Any gear, no matter how cheap or unorthodox, can be a powerful tool when used with knowledge. And expensive gear can be useless: No airplane can fly properly without a good pilot.

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: I have done lots of rock and metal, but I also have a strong affinity for jazz, world music, classical and electronica.

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: Technical precision, eclecticism and delivery on time.

  19. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  20. A: Since I have a diverse cultural background and am eclectic I tend to bring a think-outside-of-the box approach that can help artists finding more possibilities within their own music - if they're open to it, of course.

  21. Q: What's your typical work process?

  22. A: Depends if it's in person or a remote work, but for every step in the process I have a method that tends to surprise people by its simplicity and efficiency - especially for clients that had bad experiences elsewhere.

  23. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  24. A: I like to work with simple setups, mixing and mastering in the box. In my Brasília studio I have a pretty complete setup with two pairs of studio monitors and lots of gear, while in London I work with a smaller setup, or rent studios for when it is needed.

  25. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  26. A: Anyone with a clear creative mind that respects the genre they're working with, while striving for technical precision.

  27. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  28. A: From production to session musician, reamping, mixing and mastering. I frequently direct music videos as well.
