Interview with HawkJammin

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: SPEAKER KNOCKERS by Jimmi2fades, I had the pleasure of mixing his vocals, and mastering, it, he's just my brother and I'm really proud of how far he's come and I think he's gonna go far.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: My next Saxophone Psychedelic Album, projects with jimmi2fades, working with a kid that I met in person who hasn't released any music yet but I'm excited for him to put himself out there.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: No, but not for long hopefully.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Analog, it just usually sounds better for my kind of music and is so much more fun, but it's expensive, and inconvenient.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise you'll be satisfied or you won't pay me a cent.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: It can have me fully engaged, like I'm using my whole brain, which I think is impossible but that's what it feels like, like you're in the zone. I would get like that in basketball sometimes but not nearly as much as in music.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Can I use this beat? Yes Could You turn my vocals up/down? Yes anything else that needs changed? Can you mix that new song we did? Yeah Got any new beats? Yep Wanna make a new song? Yes!

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: People think this is so technical and hard, it's not that hard, you just have to put in the work.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What are your goals, and needs for this? How can I help you? What feeling are you trying to achieve? Is this sounding like how you wanted it? If not what needs to be changed?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Everyone has a unique soul and original music ideas flowing through their heads. Even something that seems so technical like Mastering is an art, so find someone to work with that you vibe with, it looks to me that this provider really filters in the best providers so I don't think quality will be an issue. Ultimately it would really depend on what you're looking for but I hope you find something that suites your needs.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: My Laptop, Headphones, Keyboard, Stereo Monitors, and Microphone.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I've never had a real career path, ever since I was in high school, music has been my career path.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: It's always been pretty psychedelic, and I love my 808s, almost always very bassy. I'm kind of just my own thing for the most part though, so.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: TeamSesh Bones, he's just the best.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Check your mix on different playback devices, laptop speakers, the car, phone speakers, apple earbuds, studio headphones, whatever you have.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Cloud Rap Beats, underground hip hop and Ambient etc. for clients, I've been doing a lot of Psychedelic Jazz Beats with Saxophone on my free time though.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Making Fire Beats.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I think a lot of the things I do are pretty unique to me, like what I call "Rain-Waving" where I'll automate rain noise to add another interesting element to the overall feel and undertones of the song. I don't want to give away any more secrets here but just take that and apply it to everything from Mixing to Producing and Song Writing.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I try not to binge out too much on one thing, it's good to keep the process flowing but I'm always willing to try things to see if I can make the project sound better. Usually when I set out to make a song, I like to start with the chords and the things I'll harmonize or compose melodies too, from there I will form the supporting and other main elements around them.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I love to have a nice view when I'm working, I look out down a grassy hill and see the big happy tress by the river, I like to have my keyboard close, but not too close. My computer and gear can really handle a lot, and they help me produce professional sounding audio. I'm so grateful I was able to get a job in high school to afford all of my equipment.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: TeamSesh, The Beatles, BusyWorksBeats, MetroBoomin.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Producing Beats, Mixing, and Mastering.
