Bent Depui on SoundBetter

I have been studying music for about 5 years and been touring and recording for 12 of them. And I have been lucky enough to participate on platinum selling songs together with great artists. I have produced two of my own albums, plus that I have over a dusin songs being played on the radio, that I either participated on, or wrote myself.

I would love to make your song stand out! There is over 17.000 songs being released everyday on Spotify. And I would love to give you what your song need to be. Organically, modern touch or what you tell me to do!

Bent was an absolute pleasure to work with- his song was awesome and he had timely and clear communication throughout. I had a blast playing on his track and wouldn't hesitate to work with him again- highly recommended!

Interview with Bent Depui

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I worked as a producer for some rockbands, and one of my greatest moments was at their release show playing for 500 people going nuts over the song I like the best, that I helped writing :)

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: One dark ballade, two of my own albums, two remixes and making ends meet with the deadlines :)

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I dont know so many here. But if you look at my reviews, you can see some of the people I like :)

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital. Its faster, easier to control and it's the future. I am saying this cos my two last albums were recorded analog. And its hell to go forward and back to fix something.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: That you will get a personal touch

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: That I can wake up and start making songs all day long.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: That I sing "pretty"

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: Look at the answer over :)

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Try to explain as much as you can what you want me to do for you. It's easier to meet your demands that way.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: Laptop, my martin guitar, a internet cable long enough to use from the island, my soundcard and my microphone. And hopefully make a powersource from the water

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: I started out as a failed drummer in the local church and brassband. I soon got fired because I had "too" much me in the drumming :) Later on I started making my own songs by learning the guitar at an age of 14. My style always took me places I wasnt feeling comfy. So I tried develop a style that where my own, and not ruled by charts and others opinion.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: Rusty

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: Tom Waits. I think we would have the best time together, and messing up every rule in music theory ever made!

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: Try fattening up your vocals with sample delay just turning it a small bit to make your vocals bigger

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: Mostly rock, ballads and folk music

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: Feeling

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: A personal touch

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: I love to analyze the idea I get, by going through all the parts in the song. If the song is without vocals, I start by making a melody and rythm before I write the lyrics.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: I have 2x Yamaha HS 5 montiors, accoustic treated walls, I use a Shure KSM 44a mic for vocals and accoustic guitars. I also have Logic X as a DAW, and Universal Apollo soundcard to record.

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: I love watching youtube videos to learn new stuff. When it comes to other musicians, I try not to get to locked up in a bubble. My own style is too messed up and mixed into a big meshup at it already is :)

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  42. A: I love singing rock and dark ballades. Most request people ask me to help them finish a song as well. Either if it is the lyrics or singing a new melody.
