Chris Banks

Vocalist, Songwriter, Producer

Chris Banks on SoundBetter

Hi! My name is Chris and as an experienced vocalist, I would love to be a part of making your vision come to life! I can record lead, background, adlibs, demos, and can vocal arrange, and songwrite!

I am a tenor vocalist, session singer, and songwriter. I have been singing for about 12 years and I currently serve as a vocalist at Valley Baptist Church in Bakersfield, CA. I have been producing and singing covers/originals these past 3 years thanks to my home studio, and have been able to collab with other artists, upload covers on social media, and gain experience in session singing whilst pushing my creativity.

I am experienced with FL Studio and Adobe audition and don't mind editing my vocals if necessary. Although I mainly sing R&B, Pop, and Church, I am versatile with other genres as well.

I would love to hear your project ideas. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

Interview with Chris Banks

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: The project that I worked on that I'm especially proud of is Valley Baptist's 'Born is the King' Christmas music special televised on ABC. It all happened in December of 2020 and I sang bgvs, choreographed/danced, and also sang solos. This project gave me so much experience in videoshoots and ensemble studio work. It was a true blessing hearing about the joy and lives we touched with this project.

  3. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  4. A: What is the goal for your project and what would you want me to bring to it?

  5. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  6. A: They would have to be my microphone, iMac, MIDI keyboard, audio interface, and a good pair of studio monitors cause you can't go wrong with the basic necessities!

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: I would describe my style as influenced by Pop R&B and church music.

  9. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  10. A: Right now I am singing/working BGV's for a night of worship church concert.

  11. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  12. A: Aaron Encinas and Charlin Neal.

  13. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  14. A: I would love to work with Chloe x Halle or Charlie Puth because I love their progressive sounds and I admire their creativity in terms of lyrics and production.

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: It is important to sing in a way that is meaningful to you because microphones can pick up disinterest.

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: I usually work on R&B, Pop, Gospel/Church, and Folk music.

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: Mainly singing, more specifically, layering, harmonies, arrangments, and toplining. Songwriting and production come second to me.

  21. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  22. A: Sonically I bring a Pop R&B brightness to the song. I love to do riffs and runs if needed. I may also bring meaningful or creative lyrics if needed.

  23. Q: What's your typical work process?

  24. A: Usually when I receive a concept and a beat I spend the first couple of hours or days brainstorming and laying down ideas. Depending on what the client wants, I start laying down vocals and arranging harmonies. I save my project and then export the stems to my client where they can mix and master them to their liking. I'm also up for revisions and changing things to be flexible.

  25. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  26. A: I use FL Studio/Adobe Audition and I have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface, a Focusrite cardioid condenser microphone on a shock mount, a sound isolation shield, and a wireless SOM SKM 9100 microphone. I operate from my iMac.

  27. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  28. A: Charlie Puth, India Arie, Chloe x Halle, and Beyoncé inspire me because I love the way their music is produced and how it connects to relevant yet relatable themes.

  29. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  30. A: The most common work I do is singing background vocals and toplining.
