"Hasbeen" Pop Vocalist

KSwan on SoundBetter

I am a "has-been" with music embedded in my soul. Singer / Songwriter with a professional career in POP / RnB and Christian music... however Country running through my veins.

Early Era
From the earliest I remember, I was training my ear and my voice with my grandfather. Jimmy Swan was a legend in Country bluegrass music along with his longtime friend Hank Williams. He worked with me everyday to teach me tone and voice control from a pre-teen age until he passed.

Era 1996 - 2004
The Boyband (cue the laughs). First signed to Maurice Starr (founder of New Kids on the Block and New Edition), I was trained / moulded into the boyband industry. With the release of our "Phase 1" album in 1999 nationwide, our first single "My First My Last" reached the number 3 spot on POP radio. Shortly after in 2001, we signed to a new record label called No Limit Records. Now working with music producer Master P, we wrote, recorded and released our second album as a young "White RnB group". This gave us much national exposure, with special appearances on MTV, BET, Nickelodeon, Jenny Jones, Good Morning America as well as national tours along side NSYNC and Christina Aguilera.

Era 2008 - Present
After the boyband era, I took time to regroup. While still working in studio with several producers, writing and recording, I mainly serve as a worship leader at my local church. It's the gift GOD gave me and I am giving it back.

Music is in my blood. I love to write, record and I have a good ear for arrangements and harmonies. I have the ability to work remotely.

  1. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  2. A: As a professional musician, we pull inspiration from many artist. Most of them define and walk us through challenging paths in our lives. That's why they inspire us so much. From a songwriting perspective, I am inspired by many of the past "greats" who paved the way for storytelling through music. These include Freddie Jackson, Ottis Redding, Brian McKnight, Babyface, Van Morrison and Bob Dylin. From a performance / arrangement perspective, I am inspired by many including Steven Tyler, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Nicks, Prince, just to name a few. From a vocal perspective, a couple artist that I am fascinated with regarding the purity and control of their voices are: Sam Smith, John Legend, Elton John, Chuck Berry, Tom Petty and Boys 2 Men

  3. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
