    Bassy bob is bad ass!!!

his mixes are next level and professional radio hit quality.
with him as your engineer you never have to question whether or not your mixes are as good as they can be.

for the experience, craft, and skill he brings to the table, its hard to believe you can hire him at this price point.

simply put he's exceptional and professional.
his body of work speaks for itself.. just look up his discography I dare you!

I’ve worked with Bob for 14 years, he produced and mixed 3 albums and countless singles for me. He is one of a kind, a talent which comes only once in a generation. I’ve never met anyone else who has the ears, heart, and love for music as he has. He is the most brilliant producer and mixer, but not only that, he is genuinely so excited by creating music and making it the best it can be. When you work with him, this energy translates to you, and makes you feel like you can do anything. It’s the best feeling in the world.

Bassy Bob brings 30 plus years of experience as a visionary, creative, and sonic sculptor. If you haven't taken a stroll through his discography do yourself a favor. Whether spearheading a project as producer or soothing and adding life to a mix, he is an undeniable asset.

Bassy Bob is who we chose to Mix Cha Wa’s “My People” the follow up album to our Grammy Nominated release “Spyboy”. He just crushed it in the mix and he is so easy to work with and his amazing reputation precedes him. I highly recommend working with him!

Full transparency: I produce Bassy Bob Presents Live (bassybobpresentslive.com) - Bassy's online live streaming show. But it's why I signed up to produce his show is what matters. Bassy's music changed my life. Listening to the first New Jack Swing in the late 80s and early 90s - to the rap hits that made my high school years. Before working with him, Bassy had already influenced me and made methe creative I am today. Bassy's production style, his intuitive gift to work with artists, musicians to help find their voice, pull out their creativity - and his desire to teach you how he did it.

As a producer, I know I can count on Bassy Bob. He knows how to bring your sonic vision to life and can retain the “analog” sound while mixing in the box.

Interview with Bassy Bob

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I recently worked on the latest EP from Tank and the Bangas, Friend Goals. It is really a breakthrough in poetry and hiphop.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: New Isaac Lewis record, and new single by Goldie Scott.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: I am big on recording in Analog, and mixing in Digital.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: My promise is that I will pour my heart into every record you send me.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I love my job, I love the challenge of waking up every day and helping to create beauty.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: They usually ask me if I think this song is a hit. My answer is always the same, I have no idea. Even if I love the song, only the public will let you know. Even an A and R executive is lying is he/she says he knows it's going to be a hit.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: I think the misconception is that a mix is going to make or break the song. It can certainly help, but the performances have to be great.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: The most important question is what is the goal of this mix.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Make sure your track is ready to go. Comp the vocals, and make sure the feel is a=exactly as you want it before you mix.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: Mac laptop. Power supply. PMC speakers. Sony headphones. Hi-speed wifi.

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: I started as an assistant in 1986 in New york City. At one point I was working at three studios at once. I accidentally had a hit record with Debbie Gibson when a demo I mixed got pressed up and went to #4 on the Billboard POP charts. After that I was fired from all my assistant jobs, and became a freelance mixer my third year in New york. From there I segued in to production, and have probably produced on over 200 albums that were released by Major Labels. I also took a hiatus while I was working with Puff Daddy and helped found Acid Jazz band the Brooklyn Funk Essentials in 1993. I toured with them until my first son was born, and then retired from live performing. I am still mixing and producing every day.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: I would be keen to work with GaGa, Adele, Weeknd, Bruno Mars, James Blake, and Im sure quite a few others.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: My only tip is to no over produce, the more you add to a song, the more you will have to contend with all those elements at mix time, and often there is power that is lost in putting too much in to a song.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: I have worked on just about every genre of music. In the past ten years I;ve done way more EDM, trap, bounce and r and b and hophop, as well as pure pop.

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: I believe my best skill is to create focus on the lead vocal through out the song. I believe of all elements of the production the vocal is the most important part.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: I bring 35 years of production, recording and mixing experience to every song Ive worked on. I have mixed over 3000 songs in my career, but of course every one is different and required a unique approach.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: I usually present the client with a first pass read on a song mix within 6-8 hours. Revisions can usually be turned around in a hour or two. I am always happy to go the distance to get the song to exactly where you want it to be.

  35. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  36. A: I have a mix room in New Orleans. I am now 100% in the box, mostly because of clients desire to have their recalls quickly and to sound exactly like the last pass. It has not been uncommon to have 30 revisions to a song.

  37. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  38. A: I have worked with some truly legendary artists and producers, Puff Daddy, babyface, Trevor Horn, Quincy Jones, Richard Perry, Ron Fair, Chucky Thompson, EZ Mo Bee and many others. Always I gain insight and wisdom from catching how they work, how they deal with artists and conduct business.

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: I work with established artists as well as very new artists. I do everything from artist delevloment, to mixing, to mastering, to vocal production and co writes with full track development. Genre wise I gravitate to pop, r and b, hiphop, trap/.
