My name is Daniel Yacaman, I am a professional drummer with 14+ years of experience based in South Florida. I want to help you accomplish that sound and tone you are looking for your track.
I typically ask my clients for a mp3 of your song and have a conversation via email or phone in reference to any instructions you have on drums. It is of my preference that your song is recorded to a metronome. If not, it's not a big of a deal, I can still play along with it and make it sound great!
I send a stereo mix .wav file of my drums for your song, and I can also send you each individual mic channel. I can include up to 10 channels if required for your song.
Equipment I use:
DRUMS:
I'm using a Tama Starclassic Birch Kit 22”/10"/12"/14"with a variety of snares that can fit in many different styles of music. I also count with an extensive variety of cymbals. I pay attention to little details to accomplish the sound you’re looking for!
RECORDING GEAR:
-Audient preamps
-SE electronics microphones
-Shure SM57
-AKG D112
-Shure SM7B

Interview with Daniel Yacaman
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Self-producing, making some instrumental music at the moment.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: No.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both, why not? I am not a nerdy guy on this kind of stuff. Technology is great!
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I am a detailed-oriented individual. Expect the best from me.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Music is the most amazing art in this world. So much emotion and feelings into it is the best part!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: If I can record ASAP and send it quick. I will take my time if it's something challenging or if it's something I know it's not sounding good. I am not going to do something mediocre.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I actually have no idea, never had someone confused of what I do.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What other songs do you use as a reference? How would you like me to approach this? What preamps would you like to use? How many productions have you worked on?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Don't be scared to communicate every detail you want. I am not afraid or intimidated easily.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Oh man, this one is hard. I would for sure take a kick drum or some form of it, a small snare drum maybe 12x4, and a dope stack of cymbals. Probably a tamborine and a crash/ride as well.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been playing drums for 13 years. Grew up in church playing such a varied repertoire. Started recording and arranging for church band production. At some point in my life I gave up the dream of a musical career, and then I had the opportunity to move ti Miami, and pursue my dream. Now I am a full-time musician either as an instructor, performer or session drummer.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I have a very groovy and experimental style.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Mutemath
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Never stop experimenting! Love your creativity and explore yourself.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, Worship, Rock, R&B, Funk, Gospel
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Communication and timing.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring to it a punchy groove, a great energy to it. I am a very solid drummer when it comes to dynamics as well.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to listen to the song that my client is sending me to get the vibe of it. I absolutely love and I think it's necessary to send reference songs.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Darren King, Larnell Lewis, Ilan Rubin, Alvaro Lopez, Dave Weckl, Aron Mellergardh are all big influences in my drumming style.
