Interview with Alex Trza

  1. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  2. A: Austin Leeds. Great engineer and producer. Very respectful, easy, and fun to work with!

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: I say both! A lot of analog gear still do amazing jobs of delivering quality sound. I say work with what works best for you!

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: My promise is to deliver the best quality for your music possible. I promise 100% satisfaction and if you aren't satisfied I do unlimited revisions and will work on your song until it's done right!

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: I love taking average music and making it into something special.

  9. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  10. A: How long will it take get my song back is the question I get the most. I usually say 2-3 days.

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: That it can be done in the snap of a finger haha! Engineering I feel is a very vital part of the music process, and it takes time to make sure that you as a client get the sound you love!

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: I'd like to know your references, as well as artists & songs you love.

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: Have an idea of what you want/need me to do to make your song better. If you don't have any I can provide suggestions and we can build from there. Music is all about collaboration, and every great artist needs a great producer/engineer behind them to assist them. Lastly, and I cannot stress this enough please provide the stems to your song. It's very hard to do my job without them.

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: My computer, monitors, keyboard, and headphones.

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: I started out producing music in my 2nd year of high school after a friend gave me FL Studio on a flash drive. From that point on I've spent countless hours learning the ins and outs of production and engineering. I've been involved with music for 7 years.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: I would describe my style as complex simplicity.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: This is a hard one, but I would have to say Daft Punk because in my eyes those guys are musical geniuses.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: When making music, ask yourself these three things. "Does this music have a feeling?" "Can this music stand the test of time?" and finally "Will this piece of music be memorable?"

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: Usually Hip-Hop & Electronic/EDM music, but I've expanded into other genres such as Pop & R&B.

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: I say my strongest skill is being able to analyze and point out mistakes that can be improved immediately. A lot of producers and engineers don't understand that you don't have to make big changes to make songs exciting it's the small things that give a song character.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: I do my very best to bring character, spice, and detail to a song that keeps things interesting for the listener. Music is like a rollercoaster and listeners want to be thrilled when they listen to a person's music. Imagine listening to the same patterns and rhythms for 2+ minutes... wouldn't be exciting now, would it?

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: Before I start on a client's song I listen to their song a few times to point out the flaws within their track. After I figure out what needs to be done that's where I start working. I usually mix the production first because it's the easiest for me, and then their vocals. Mastering is what I take my most time on.

  35. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  36. A: My setup is quite simple. I have the laptop that I work on, my studio monitors, and my midi keyboard.

  37. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  38. A: Musically I'm inspired by Hip-Hop & Electronic producers such as Dr. Dre, Deadmau5, RZA, Illenium, The Glitch Mob, Havoc, & DJ Paul of Three 6 Mafia. Ultimately Dr. Dre is my ultimate inspiration because of the way he crafts and takes his time to mix a record down to near perfection. I try to have the same mentality with the artists I work with.

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: I usually do mixing and mastering for artists and producers. Sometimes I get asked to co-produce a song or two but mainly I'll do the engineering side.
