Kristofer Göransson on SoundBetter

“A song must deliver a story that draws the listener to it. I will help you achieve that.”

I remember listening to The Beatles' White Album on my parents' old gramophone one summer in my youth. It was a new sonic experience for me. The sound, songs, and feeling were incredible. From that moment, I wanted to be creative in music.

I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

I think Kristofer is a very good and talented mixing engineer. He knows how to use his ear as an excellent tool and he can form your track into the way you want it. You get a very good balance between a clean and a fat mix while working with Kristofer and It's definitely worth the price!

i have been fortunate enough to work with Kristofer in so many situations; as a musician on stage, instrumentalist and backup vocalist on my record, mixing and mastering of my work.

He is professional, critical and always positive with great attention to your needs, wishes and questions.

Without one of the best I've worked with.

I've worked with Kristofer mostly in respects of his abilities as a mixing engineer, but also as a recording engineer/producer. Always a calm, professional and creative athmosphere in the studio while recording, always very responsive to ideas/feedback during both recording and mixing. Great vibes, good times!

Interview with Kristofer Göransson

  1. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  2. A: :) 1. Harrison channelstrip. 2. La3a 3. Coles 4033 4. Apogee one 5. Laptop with a DAW

  3. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  4. A: Mixing most often indie pop, jazz, rock. In mastering it varies more.

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: My goal is that the song reaches it's fullest potential so it will present itself to the listener the best way it can.

  7. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  8. A: My setup now circulates around a beautiful vintage Harrison 4032 console. I have a strong digital arsenal of plugins and the DAW is Pro Tools HD. I mix hybrid inserting outboard gear and the settings rarely changes. Most of the the stuff happens In The Box and then I brush broad strokes with the analog goodness. Let it do the heavy lifting.

  9. Q: What's your typical work process?

  10. A: After talking with the artist I hopefully have a clear picture how to approach the song. We´ll also discuss the exporting process so everything´s in order. After that it's about setting up Pro Tools the way I want it, patching in the outboards "och så vidare". After listening to the song and the files I work through the tracks checking for things that might need some repair work and editing. If not done before some pitching or time editing. The prep work for me is extremely important. After a couple of hours I'll send a first, maybe a final, mix of the song to the artist. :)

  11. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  12. A: A big hero is Nigel Goodrich. Marc Ronson is another one. Think Tchad Blake is a amazing mixer. Of course Geoff Emerick and the Beatles is a big source of inspiration and so is Michael B Tretow who made all the Abba records.

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: The key to the song is the vocals and I always pay most attention to them. I always try to make the vocals sound amazing.

  15. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  16. A: I work with really talented artists and bands but sometimes also project that needs a lot of love and care. I don't hesitate to get my hands dirty adding synths, percussion and even vocals. My goal is that whatever comes to me will sound amazing when it´s done. Sometimes doing the song more radio friendly is required, if that´s the goal, for example shorten that 3 minute melodica intro. Of course all this is discussed pre mixing.

  17. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  18. A: One I used recently is audio to midi with Melodyne! Cool if you want to change the color of live strings, vocals or give more fattness to a bass. Try it!
