Alex was the perfect person for my project. His guitar parts were really tasteful and fit the track exactly right. I'll definitely be using him as my go-to for guitars from now on.

Alex is awesome!! He's played on my tracks and kills it. He is very creative and great at writing his own parts if I don't already know what I want. He has also helped me structure my songs. I would highly recommend!

Interview with Alex Edwards

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: An artist named young brother. I played lots of weird and cool sounds on it. Darren from MuteMath played drums and the whole project came out really, really cool!

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: The new Parachute record, lots of song demos that are pitched to pop artists

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Analog sound with digital control. Both!

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: To be 100% happy with what I add to the song. A quick turnaround too!

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: Making the client stoked on how the guitars make the song go from good to great!

  11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  12. A: What kind of vibe they want for the song. If they don't know, they can trust me to do a few different things and see which one they like most!

  13. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  14. A: If you don't really know what you want for guitars, let me know. I can get creative and make a great sound.

  15. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  16. A: My Kemper, my 335, analog man king of tone overdrive, rv-5 reverb (on the modulate setting), and my vintage memory man

  17. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  18. A: I went to college in Nashville for music business and instantly started touring out of college. I was on the road for 5 years with many pop and country acts, then moved to LA last year for a change of pace.

  19. Q: How would you describe your style?

  20. A: I would say it's very accessible but has character. I pride myself in getting great tones and great parts.

  21. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  22. A: Rihanna. She's the best and such a badass.

  23. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  24. A: Keep it simple and don't over think it!

  25. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  26. A: Mostly pop. I play pop-rock, indie, and rock as well. I've done a lot of singer-songwriter and Americana. I toured with a lot of country artists, so I can do country as well.

  27. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  28. A: I'm easy to work with, and work fast. I try to do exactly what the producer needs for the song. The tracks I send are already treated and lined up, so you won't have to work too much on the stems once I sent them over.

  29. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  30. A: I can fit into a song and add textures, and also completely change the vibe of the song if needed with the guitars. I can pull up a lot of interesting sounds that make the song have a unique character.

  31. Q: What's your typical work process?

  32. A: I'll get sent a track without guitars and then ask what the artist/producer wants to hear. Sometimes we will listen to a few reference songs to narrow down the sound, then go for it!

  33. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  34. A: I use a Kemper profiling system, so I have just about any amp available at my fingertips. I run the Kemper into Logic X and have a ton of plug-ins for anything I need!

  35. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  36. A: Obviously Max Martin. Jack Antinoff and Butch Walker have great pop sensibilities with interesting and unique sounds.

  37. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  38. A: Remote guitar tracking to fit or create a new vibe for a song
