Remote Drum Tracking

Ryan Bannigan on SoundBetter

specializing in remote drum tracking, drum programming, and overall production.

My approach to music starts with drums. Creating a unique and undeniable groove while still serving the song is my goal. I love sampling, and drum programming as much as I do working with live drums and percussion. I especially love mixing the two worlds in ways that feel both natural and authentic.

My current drumming style leans more towards jazz influenced beat music like dilla, robert glasper, & even yussef dayes, but I actively write and record r&b, neo-soul, pop, & rock. I can be a chameleon of sorts and have had the opportunity to play on records that were completely different from the session before.

I record my drums through some outboard gear- UA 6176, WA-2A, Focusrite ISA One Preamp, & dbx-160x into my interfaces- UA Apollo x8p & Scarlett 18i20. I can provide clean, raw multi-track drum stems & a stereo file drum track.

  3. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  4. A: I love finding elements that complement the song. If the song seems to want a technical, busy groove, that's awesome. It may just as easily want a basic loop for the duration of the track. I'm happy to play either as long as it complements the mood and aesthetic.

  5. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  6. A: writing/recording live drums and percussion, programming drums, recording/engineering my peer's music.
