Interview with Vinand Prods
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: On my Osumbana EP project, released on the South Yard Label. A production and mixing challenge, where I had the role of composer and mixer, I designed the sound and everything except mastering. This EP has been released and has had a lot of support from very big artists, who I would love to meet one day.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Various tracks to release on international labels. Ghostproducciones, private mixing and production classes, YouTube channel with tutorials and tips...
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I don't know.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: It depends for what. Each of them has its advantages and disadvantages.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: With good communication, get what the customer wants.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Passion for this. Making music sound good, I feel angry when I hear bad sounding released music.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: What DAW do I use? My answer is that I use FL studio, because the tool doesn't matter but who uses it.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Believing that mixing is not necessary, only mastering is needed.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I like to know the client's objective, where his career is headed and have a minimum confidence to start working. Obviously, if the client cannot communicate anything or does not agree, we start working without problem!
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Good work requires patience and communication.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: With my laptop and some Beyerdynamics 770 it would be enough
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Several years producing and training in mixing & mastering, working with various artists on the scene. With Drum & Bass I am exploiting my career as a DJ and producer of the genre, releasing music on various labels and receiving support from the best artists and channels.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Particular, melodic and aggressive sound at the same time.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would like to work with Camo Crooked, they have an incredible sound, one of the most complex in the Drum and Bass industry.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Frequency balance is the key to sounding like the pros.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Drum and Bass, Electronic, Urban music, por, rock, etc.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Thanks to my training with great engineers, experience and qualified ear, I get a very good quality in the mixes. Also proficiency in electronic music productions for ghostproducer
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: sound quality, cleanliness, commercial volume and 100% detailed treatment.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Normally, I ask my client for a reference song that he wants to look like or how he wants to sound. Next, I always work with the reference to stay on track and ensure a very similar sound.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a studio with professional acoustics, $3,000 worth of Focal monitors. I also have a home studio to produce and work when I need it.
