I'm an LA-based singer with credits including FOX “The Masked Singer”, Hocus Pocus 2, The Witcher, several commercials as well as recent live work for Disney Concerts “Disney 100” in China. I have a warm, rich tone and record and produce everything from my home studio.
My name is Josh Munnell. I'm a session singer and performer in Los Angeles with a degree in Commercial Music from Azusa Pacific University. My background and training includes contemporary/pop styles, classical, soul, CCM/Gospel, jazz and musical theater.
My voice is similar to artists like Shawn Mendes, Charlie Puth, Michael Buble, Josh Groban, Ben Platt among others depending on the style required. My vocal range is A2 to F5.
In addition to session work, I perform at live events, do vocal production work and occasional on camera work for TV and commercials. I currently sing with Chris Wade Music Productions, Tonality and LA Choral Lab.

It was a pleasure working with Josh. He is professional, prompt, flexible, enthusiastic, knowledgable, detailed, and very skilled at his craft and recording. He went the extra mile with my track providing many backgrounds and adlibs along with his lead. His voice has a nice touch of soul making his sound distinct and smooth. If you need your song to be sung by a pro who cares about your song hire Josh!

I had an awesome time working with Josh! Communication was always really good, and everything sounded basically flawless-- I had only one small revision I asked for, and he re-did it and got it back to me within an hour!
I've been working with Josh for quite some time now and I have never been disappointed with his work! His professionalism and attention to detail make him such a great guy to work with. His talent is perfection, but most importantly he is nice & extremely personable. If anyone is looking for a male artist that can come through on the job, Josh is the dude!

Interview with Josh Munnell
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I recently sang some background vocals for an artist signed with Atlantic Records. I love singing in groups especially in the gospel genre!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Some demos for a client in Asia, a dance/EDM vocal and vocal producing some Musical Theater tracks for a client.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Camille van Niekerk is an amazing female vocalist!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital because that's what I have available. I'm not opposed to analog!
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise accuracy and quality!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Working on new music all the time, working from home and having a flexible schedule!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How much will this cost? This varies on how much you have done and how much you need from me! How long will it take? I have a week turnaround though I usually can do it quicker if need be!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Singing vocals equals songwriting. If you want that, then you need to collaborate with a songwriter! I can provide ideas for melody/lyric changes and vocal arranging, but those should be established first.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What do you have already finished? Do you have a track? Do you have a melody and lyrics finished? Do you want harmonies or just a lead vocal? Do you have sheet music?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: The more information you can provide for the vision of your project, the better! Have a style or artist you want it to sound like? Let me know! Also providing a scratch vocal and accurate sheet music is always appreciated!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I'd take my computer, audio interface, microphone, pop filter and some good headphones. That'd keep my entertained and busy!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Music has been my career path for 8+ years since coming to Los Angeles. In addition to session/studio work, I work as a worship leader and teach voice lessons.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I grew up listening to Pop, CCM and musical theater which provides the basis of my sound. I love gospel and soul and incorporate those inflections as well!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Tori Kelly. She has such amazing raw talent and connection to her music!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Less is more. Keep any changes in EQ, volume or other creative plugins as minimal as possible. It'll go further and create less problems in the future!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work in a variety of styles including pop, musical theater, CCM, soul, dance/EDM and choral/classical!
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Accuracy in pitch and style and efficiency!
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring musicianship and my creativity for vocal arranging!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Once I receive the session files, I listen through the song a few times with my sheet music/lyrics to get a feel for the flow and what it will need for style/tone and energy. Then I record the song and do as many takes as needed until I'm satisfied. Afterwards, I'll comp my takes, add any necessary processing and send them off to my clients for review. I'll make any small changes the client asks for and then send them the final product!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I use the following gear in my studio: Apple Macbook Pro Universal Audio Apollo Twin Duo audio interface Rode NTK tube condenser microphone Pop filter Reflection shield Logic Pro X Waves Plugins Universal Audio Plugins
