Interview with Michele Garruti
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill to create a crossover environment, I mean I can easily compose music mixing classical and acoustic elements (e.g. piano, strings) with electronic sounds (noisy, ethereal, glitchy elements, analog and digital synths or FX) as if I can create real images with my music or describe images, scenes, emotions and so on. Therefore I also can easily set up arrangements for alternative/indie songwriters.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I try to bring to a piece the images I create in my mind as well as the images the clients send me obviously.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Having in-depth talks with the client is the most important step especially with the services I provide, I mean composing music for any kind of video. Most of video producers, film makers and so on don't know the specific music lexicon so my effort is to fully understand what they really want, even beyond the words they use.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I own HD equipment as, for example, Universal Audio gear hardware (e.g. Apollo Duo Twin) and software ( dozens of Plug-ins), Avalon analogic valves compressor, KRK studio monitors as well as hundreds of professional VST libraries and sounds effects.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I take inspiration both from minimalist composers as Max Richter, Philip Glass, Dustin O'Halloran and emotional intensity composers as Ennio Morricone, Hans Zimmer, Sakamoto, Danny Elfman etc..I also take inspiration from Alternative/Indie/Prog productions in order to create my personal own "crossover" style so that to meet any possible specific composing services demands.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I usually deal with composing instrumental music for any type of video Sync both with multi-instrumental features (string quartet, electronic sounds, orchestral sounds, etc.) and solo piano pieces.
