Matt Schneider

Session Vocalist & Guitarist

Matt Schneider on SoundBetter

Soulful, accessible approach to vocals & guitar. My focus is to create music that helps your message and vision reach listeners ears with the highest level of distinction, resonance, and character possible.

I have over a decade of experience as a session guitarist and vocalist with most of my work having been split between Cincinnati and Nashville. I've recorded studios ranging from historic Nashville studios to top tier home studios throughout the Midwest.

I also specialize in songwriting with an ever growing catalogue which includes over 500 songs written in the last 3 years alone. My passion is helping to frame scenes, experiences, and messages into the melodies and progressions that keep the songs continually floating in your listeners' ears.

Interview with Matt Schneider

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: Full length album for my solo project.

  3. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  4. A: Aside from the genre, timbre, and music what do you want your listener to hear? Are there any particular emotions, sensations, or additional visuals that we can use bring the best product to the table?

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: Send references for what you are looking to hear, and provide some context for what you don't want to hear. This helps me to narrow in on your focus and play like a member of your team on each track.

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: I describe my style as groove rock. This to me is a focus on the rhythmic side of the vocal and guitar performances that help to lock in as a listener.

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: Listening and developing the tone desired by artists.

  11. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  12. A: A strong focus on the end listener, and a deep focus on the goals and ambitions of the artist.

  13. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  14. A: I record in my home studio using a Presonus Studio Live 16.0.2 as my interface running into Logic Pro X. For tracking vocals, I normally use my Neumann TLM 102 but I also love the sound of a Shure SM7B. For tracking guitar, I'll normally use a SM57 on my amp with some other mic's as well for flavor. I have a wide access to other studios, equipment, and expertise for anything that may come up.

  15. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  16. A: My first inspiration was Jason Mraz because of his distinct vocals, incredible songwriting, and his range of music within the catalogue. This led me to find my other heroes like Paul McCartney, Prince, and James Taylor.
