Joe Bills on SoundBetter

Located in Ohio, I operate out of my private studio where I am hired to sing, write, produce, and engineer for both major labels and independent artists. I am now on SoundBetter to provide my top-notch talent to independent artists around the globe. Contact me for any of the listed services!

My clients/friends choose me over others because of my talent, speed and quality of work. I am able to provide an outstanding result in an efficient manner. I deliver my projects on time (usually earlier). The finished products are always impressive because I refuse to settle for less (no matter what the cost of the project). Lastly, the results always stand up next to other hit records because of the platinum quality I provide with mixing and mastering. I have 12+ years of experience as a singer, songwriter, guitar player, producer, and mixing/mastering engineer. I am purely a creator and I LOVE to help others turn their visions into reality. I wrote a fun tribute song that I envisioned having a male vocal and I found Joe's voice to have the perfect tone for what I had in mind. I had the topline created so then I worked with Joe on the song production. He quickly picked up on the very specific vibe and intent behind my song and created an awesome track for it. He was very attentive and responsive and an absolute pleasure to work with. I'm sure we will work on something in the future! :) Excited to see where this song goes!

Interview with Joe Bills

  1. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  2. A: Jon Bellion is extremely inspiring to me. The way he composes such thought out pieces with amazing lyrics is INCREDIBLY hard to achieve. I also love "The Paper Kites". They have some of the best songwriting I have ever heard in my lifetime.

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: My latest release called "wow..", I wrote it in my UPS truck as I was delivering packages for a living at the time, right before I decided to give it up and produce full time. Soon after I quit and finished up "wow..", sent it to "Ty Falcoa", had him do a verse on it, he slayed it, we released and it got on some big editorial playlists and just passed 10k and is still rising! Great things are coming from it and I couldn't be happier or more proud..

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: Monthly releases to my Spotify! Woo Woo.. and a crap ton of freelance orders! Lol

  7. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  8. A: Yes, TY Falcoa. He is a beast...

  9. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  10. A: This debate will go on forever no matter what my opinion is..

  11. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  12. A: That I will make your song better than you imagined was possible.

  13. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  14. A: It is something I have built and it is something to be proud of. That feeling can't come from anywhere else but you.

  15. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  16. A: Why are you not famous yet? Because talent isn't the only thing that makes you famous in todays world.

  17. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  18. A: That what I do isn't sustainable.

  19. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  20. A: What is your vision with this project? What does it mean to you and how open are you to changing it?

  21. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  22. A: Always look at hiring a producer as a 50/50 partnership. No producer wants to sit, listen to instruction and press buttons. They are songwriters too. Well, most of them..

  23. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  24. A: My 2 hands, my guitar, a capo, and my voice.

  25. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  26. A: This has always been my career path, I never had a plan B.

  27. Q: How would you describe your style?

  28. A: Head bobby and easy to digest.

  29. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  30. A: John Mayer. Because he is the best of all time at pulling emotion from his guitar.

  31. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  32. A: Some times you need to step away from the computer and go outside and just breath. You will always come back in with a better idea.

  33. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  34. A: Rock, and Pop.

  35. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  36. A: Singing or playing guitar emotionally. Pulling the emotion from my voice or guitar.

  37. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  38. A: Out of the box thinking. A challenge to what is "modern" but still creating a relatable emotion. Also digging into the writers mind and helping them pull out the emotion they are looking for. I care about the song as a whole. I am always willing to sacrifice just about anything to make the song a great song, no matter how awesome that 30sec guitar solo was...

  39. Q: What's your typical work process?

  40. A: It varies, there is no set way I go about things honestly. However I am inspired first, I go with the creativity and let it take me down whatever path it chooses. That could be a melody idea to start, or a piano/guitar line, or a drum cadence. Every song has a different process!

  41. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  42. A: In my private studio, I work out of Logic Pro mostly, sometimes Ableton it just depends on what I am doing. Everything is ran through my RME converter for top notch conversion. I record all of my audio in a professionally treated soundproof booth for little to no noise! I run my mic's into my 511 Neve Pre before it hits the RME. But the most important piece in my studio is my Essential Oil diffuser because it brings all the vibes.... (lol)

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I mostly offer my singing to clients. They send me an instrumental (sometimes with lyrics sometimes I write them) and I sing over their production. I am also frequently hired to be a session guitarist for someones project (acoustic or electric and even bass). I am also hired to do lots of other things like produce beats, tune vocals, and mix/master!
