Marc was awesome to work with. I had him help me dial in a guitar tone from one of my favorite songs and he did a great job! The tone of the end result was practically identical to the original song! Marc was quick to respond and answer questions and he shared all the presets and plugin settings with me so I could use the exact same settings / tone for my future recordings. I will definitely use Marc again in the future for dialing in tones and getting tips on my mixes. Well done!

Excellent job. Marc has an easy communication, straight-forward. He is so in line with our rock style that we needed only one mixing revision!!! The quality of the mixing and mastering overachieved our expectations. For sure, we will make new work with him. Interview with Marc Peiron

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I'm really proud of a song I mixed for a client called Matt Barkley. It was a 12-minute instrumental. It was the first instrumental mix I did and the end result was amazing. He is also really kind and was really happy with the mix. Go find him with his artist name NOTSM. The song is called Zippicamiknicks.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Right now I'm finishing an LP from an American band called Aim High. It's gonna be huge!

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Honestly I don't know anyone else here because I'm new to this. I'd like to meet people with similar interests!

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital because I have never worked in analog and the possibilities are endless. Without digital I could not be doing what I'm doing now.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: If the raw tracks are good, the song is gonna sound awesome.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Being able to transform and improve a song by adding plugins, moving knobs and faders. I feel the power!

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: They ask for a discount and I say yes!

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Some people think I do electronic remixes when I say I mix music!

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I always ask about the genre, the influences and their career.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: The better-organized and more fluent communication we have, the best product we will end up with.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: A computer, my bass guitar, an interface to connect the bass, my headphones to hear the bass and... the jack!

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I started mixing my own music when I was 20. Since then I'm improving year after year. Now I start having clients and my goal is to open a music studio to combine with my other job at a radio station.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: I like to work in a really organized way. My DAW template is very clear and transparent and I like to have all the files with the correct name and tags.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I love to work with local artists who are starting their careers and need professional but non-expensive productions to keep on their projects.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: The most important parts in a production are kick, snare and vocals. They must be heard clearly.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I usually work on heavy music: any kinds of metal, rock, punk...

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: I like to think it's the good use of virtual instruments. They help get a professional result in seconds (amp sims) and to enhance a bad drum recording (drum samples). But you need to use them wisely!

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Without mixing, a song would sound boring and unprofessional. I always think that the main goal of a mix is to bring the power and impact music usually have when played live.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: First I edit the songs in a blank session and then I export the stems. Then I have a mixing template which I update from time to time. I open a new session with this template and drag the tracks there. If necessary I create or eliminate tracks and I organize things. I mix and at the end I automate the tracks. Finally I take a rest and listen to the song again until the final delivery.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: Right now I'm in the beginning of my career and can't afford a great studio, so I work from home with my computer, my audio interface and most of times my trusty Sennheiser HD650 headphones. I also have a pair of JBL LSR305 monitors, but if you have untreated rooms I usually find the headphones to be more reliable, specially these ones.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Almost all I learned is thanks to other professionals who have shared their knowledge. Adam 'Nolly' Getgood, Jordan Valeriote, Chris Lord Aldge, Sam Guaiana and Taylor Larson are the main ones.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Most of times I do mixing and usually this mixes require some kind of editing before (drum quantization, vocal tuning...). I've also done some mastering jobs.
