Interview with Erick T

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Mastering for C-Kan was one of the greatest highlights for me. What a blessing to have those golden stems in my DAW. Also Mr. Pig was pretty fun because I did the A&R, final details, mastering, marketing and distribution.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Working on my personal project, Erick T. also role as DOP for XDM Records | XDM Group in Mexico.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Fancy Folks are one of the greatest in the game.

  7. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  8. A: "Why "x" still doesn't sound good?" The answer is the golden rule of mastering. Trash in, trash out. The only remedy is to do a production fix.

  9. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  10. A: everyone can do it

  11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  12. A: let me understand your vision and let's get to it

  13. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  14. A: the best in the game

  15. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  16. A: Digital. I don't think going out of the box in 2021 it's an option. At the end of the chain is a DAC so let's make the sound enough digital to sound the same every single time and preserve the vibe.

  17. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  18. A: The best quality

  19. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  20. A: Networking

  21. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  22. A: Let's match visions.

  23. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  24. A: Headphones, an outstanding DAC and my laptop. That's what I need only to make the magic.

  25. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  26. A: 5 years in a row

  27. Q: How would you describe your style?

  28. A: DANCE!

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Be sure what do you want to do at first and have a good sample collection. That's key.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Electronic Dance Music but I love to experiment with other genres and push my limits every single time.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Perception.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Enhance the groove and maximize the sound with the best quality as possible. EDM music it's all about the kick and the bass. Most of the time those 2 are the elements I review in detail the most. It's the foundation.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Ask for the client 6 stems. Kick, Bass, Drums, Synths, FX, Vocals. In order to enhance the quality of the mixdown just in the things the song needs. Then the client brings references and I have a complete vision and setup to start my job.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I believe going out of the box affects the signal a lot, we tried in the past with the greatest gear but I don't like the sound. Might be good for other kind of music but it's totally opposite to what the modern EDM needs so I do ZERO conversions to preserve quality of audio. All in the box.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: More than musicians, the people who makes possible everything we do. Listening to the final result in a club and everybody dancing it's my main inspiration

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Worldwide EDM Artists. Also I love when clients from different genres hit me up too! They love that EDM smashed sound on their music.
