Dicky

Beat Maker/Mixing Engineer

Dicky on SoundBetter

I have been producing for 13 years and have attained a diploma of sound production (studio production). Music is my absolute passion and I have been fortunate enough to meet some truly amazing people throughout the industry. Customer satisfaction is always my number one priority. Cheers Dicky

I make primarily hip hop beats but I am willing to work on any genre of music.
I can mix any style of music to a final mixdown, unfortunately I do not offer mastering as part of my service because I leave that to the experts.
I also offer ghost writing services, this is a tabu subject for most, but I can tell you for a fact that it happens more often than you think. The end result is all that matters don't be too proud for a little help at times.
I am more than happy to send examples of my work before proceeding.

I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

Interview with Dicky

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Working in remote areas helping aborigines make a few tunes. It gave great satisfaction to see the excitement and smile on the kids faces.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: New Knowledge Bones LP....he is a hugely respected artist in Australia and a highly talented emcee. Also making beats for my own digitally released beat tape!

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: No not yet, but can't wait to meet them.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both obviously have their place. I'm a digital man in a digital age.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: Full money back guarantee if you are not happy with the final result. Although nobody's had to do that yet :)

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Doing something you love to make money, who would complain about that!

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: What's the lowest price you can do? To be honest I'm open to negotiate on every price but there comes a point where it's just not worth my time, I could be working on somebody else's music who are prepared to pay more to get the final result they are after.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That anyone can do it. It takes time, perseverance and a lot of hard work to get to where I am.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What is their vision for their song/project? What is their budget and time frame to get the work completed.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Shop around, but remember the cheapest price isn't always the best option. I see too many artists splurge on beats, recording time etc but then try to skimp on getting it mixed properly. When in reality the mixdown is a huge component of making any record sound good.

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: Started off writing rhymes and making beats, just messing around with my mates. Went on to study sound production part time over 2 years. Since then I have been fortunate enough to work with some of the biggest names in Aussie hip hop, now it's time to take it overseas!

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: I combine old school with new school sounds to create my own unique vibe.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: Eminem....Dreaming right?? He is an incredible artist hands down.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: Honesty. Be honest with your customer at all times.

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: Hip Hop.

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: Helping an artist take an idea and together turn it into a full blown song.

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: A unique and individual sound. Whether it's right or wrong for your particular project I have confidence in the skills I bring to the table.

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: Sit back relax and enjoy the tunes. The music itself inspires me and I always put 110% into anything I put my name against. Customer satisfaction comes before anything else.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: I won't lie, it's very basic as I have a family and am on a tight budget but it's enough to get the job done. Hoping to upgrade in the next 12 months. Primarily I use the native instruments maschine to make beats and the full version of cubase for mixing.

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: All musicians who have their own style and aren't afraid of thinking outside the box so to speak.

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  42. A: I make custom hip hop beats from scratch. Customers send me examples of songs they like and I create a beat that will match that vibe. In regards to mixing I will only work with serious musicians who are passionate about what they are trying to create.
